Whoops and Hurrays

Do you think there is a correlation between my blogging on here and my
success at reaching my goals? By the fact that I haven't written for a
week or so may give you good reason to believe I've not been doing so
good on the healthy living thing. You would probably be right. Whoops.
The excuse (you knew that was coming) is that life got stressful,
overwhelming, and very busy and for some reason whenever those
adjectives are part of my life I start to crave chocolate. So the no
sugar thing got fudged on for a few days and then, like I've written
before, those few days turned into every day.

I blame trail mix. Those darn M&Ms.

But after I say that all I realize I have to be completely honest with
myself. Which means that in addition to the things I failed to do I
must recognize the things I did do. I have been walking a lot. I drank
plenty of water - one of the few things I have truly mastered in my
health needs. I have been going outside every day if for nothing else
to look at the leaves and trees and sky. (Having a 4 month old that
loves to look at new things ensures this.)
You may ask what looking at leaves and trees has to do with health and
happiness. Part of good health is good mental and emotional health.
Getting sunshine (or at very least, fresh air) seriously helps on the
mood and general outlook on life. I am convinced that good health -
physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual - all play a key in our
overall happiness and all are important. So much of the time we beat
ourselves up for not exercising or eating that extra brownie but we
fail to congratulate ourselves on the good things that also affect our
health like laughing with a best friend or taking time to meditate.
So I caved to the peer pressure caused by little chocolate covered
candies. Doesn't mean it's a lost cause. I am doing okay and will
continue to do better. So whoops for sugar and hurray for getting
outside.

What are your whoops and hurrays today?
